- Above 50 ? Retirement visa
- Got load of cash ? LTR visa
- Want to stay on DTV ? Who knows if still there or requirements
- phuket program for real estate give you a visa
All in all. A lot can change in 3 years. Best course of action is stay on DTV or get a ltr visa. Can also get the elite visa but it’s pointless due to the price.

6 month stay in Thailand (Chiang Mai). Visa options?
My wife (33y), baby daughter (3 months) and myself (34y) want to stay in Thailand for 6 months in total. We booked one-way plane tickets to Chiang Mai this September and are very much looking forward to it. But we could really use some insight regarding our visa strategy.
I have found that we could apply for a 60 day single entry tourist visa in our home country and extend this for another 30 days once in Thailand. We would then leave the country for a few days going to Malaysia or Vietnam and apply for another 60 day single entry tourist visa, extend this again for 30 days once in Thailand, and voila, we have 6 months stay in total.
However there is a possible issue with this approach.
To arrange the Visa it says that we need to show an onward plane ticket leaving Thailand. I read online that we might run into some issues either with the Visa application, the airline and/or immigration if this flight is not within the 60 days of the Visa, as a 30 visa extension is officially not guaranteed to be given.
Any tips, tricks on how to deal with this?
What would be the most efficient way to stay for 6 months in total?
And does anyone knows if overland travel is also allowed as proof of onward travel? e.g. booking a 3rd class train ticket online from Hat Yai (Thailand) to Padang Basar (Malaysia)?

You can purchase a flight before you apply and then cancel it after, or use a website like Onwardtravel to buy a "fake" ticket for cheap.
When I entered Thailand in December I did not exactly have an exit flight booked, I had a flight from Japan to my home country booked but it was after my guaranteed 45 days visa exemption. I planned to extend my visa 30 days and everything has worked out so far.
I think as long as you have all your stuff in order, are polite and respectful you will not have any issues :)

Not usually, onwardticket.com or buy a refundable one and cancel it. You could consider a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa and then you only need to do a border bounce not a visa run. If timed properly, be prepared to leave pretty much as soon as you get it, you can get almost 9 months out of it.

You haven't said what passport you have. Yes your Thai consulate may ask for onward travel proof. You could buy METV visa in your country, valid for 6 months,60 day per entry and each entry extendable by 30 days, for that visa you must show need with travel out and return to Thailand. Expensive too. Throw away tickets to a cheap nearby destination sounds like your best option.

I am Indian passport holder and I am visiting your beautiful country for the first time on the 11th. I changed my initial plans to split time between Thailand and Vietnam and had a whole 27 day rough itinerary planned to slow travel (BKK - Koh Tao - BKK surrounding areas - Chiang Mai/CR/Pai) around the country.
But I fucked up not reading a lot into the visa stuff and I realise now that I can stay only 15 days with a possible 7 day extension.
Is there any legit way I can get it extended to 30 days? Can I do one of these border crossings which will kinda align with my itinerary and not burn a massive hole in my pocket? And since I HAVE to come with a return ticket, how do I even account for the 7 day extension that I may get?
Any help appreciated. Thank you.

You can cross the border to one of the neighboring countries and get issued another visa on arrival for 2000 baht. Make sure the border crossing you choose has visa on arrival facility, all airports have it. Next time get a 60-day single entry tourist visa.
