It lists extensions of short-term tourist visas, for teachers and students too, the 90-day report and re-entry permits from 09:00 to 12:00. What the office handles
Tourist extension
A visa-exempt visitor can request an extension of up to 30 days. Apply before the permitted stay ends; approval is at the immigration officer’s discretion.
- Form TM.7 with a photo attached.
- The passport, original plus one copy.
- The signed Acknowledgement of Penalties for a Visa Overstay.
- The fee is THB 1,900.
The handbook gives a service time of 40 minutes once the documents are complete. Full steps are in How to extend a tourist stay in Chiang Mai.

The 90-day report
A foreigner permitted to stay temporarily must notify an immigration officer of the address every 90 days. A report may be made from 15 days before to 7 days after the due date. Late reporting means going in person and paying a THB 2,000 fine.
At the counter you hand over the passport and form TM.47; an officer records the details, issues a receipt with the next appointment date and returns the passport. Bring the previous receipt if you have one. The handbook gives a total service time of 4 minutes once the documents are in order.
The other ways are by registered post or online. The office links an online 90-day service on form TM.47, open round the clock, but online reports must be filed no later than 7 days before the due date. Another person may make the report for you, except a late report, which you must make in person. Full steps: 90-day report in Chiang Mai.
Re-entry permit
A single re-entry permit costs THB 1,000 and a multiple one THB 3,800. File on form TM.8 with one 4x6 cm photo, in person at the local immigration office. Leaving Thailand without a re-entry permit cancels the permitted stay.
TM.30, the residence notice
The house-master, owner or possessor of the residence, or the hotel manager, must notify immigration within twenty-four hours of the foreigner taking up residence. Section 38 puts that duty on them, not on the foreigner.
If you rent, ask your landlord or building manager to file it. The filing steps are in the residence notice guide. Failing it carries a fine of up to THB 2,000, or THB 2,000 to THB 10,000 for a hotel manager.
It can be filed in person, by registered post or online after registering. The office links an online TM.30 service for house-masters, owners and possessors.
Overstay
The fine is THB 500 per day, up to THB 20,000 for overstays of 40 days or longer.
Priority channels and online services
On 12 May 2026 the office announced a channel for extension-of-stay service. It serves the elderly, disabled people and people needing special help first. On 22 May 2026 the office announced a channel that serves ill foreigners first.
The office homepage offers e-Extension for select visa categories only. A January 2024 notice headed “E-Extension for tourism” says applicants pay fees online, book queues and receive stamps faster at the immigration checkpoint. Whether visa-exempt entrants qualify is not confirmed; see Thailand e-Extension online.
Regular, express and urgent service fees are THB 500, THB 1,500 and THB 5,000. They come with visa fees of THB 1,900.
The online queue booking on the homepage is for the four-nationality labour service only. No booking or ticket system for tourist extensions is described on the office site. The four steps are in How to extend a tourist stay in Chiang Mai.
