Doctor said rabies vaccine is not necessary
I'm going Phuket, chiang mai, bangkok, koh samui, chaing rai and pai.
My doctor told me rabies isn't necessary because the chances are so low. I'm a bit unsure about this but figured he knows what he's talking about.
Is it worth getting it anyway?

Seconding this. Rabies has become a rare-but-occasionally-crops-up thing here, and hospitals always have the vaccine in stock, so there's no risk of going to the hospital and them not having it.
Even the CDC only recommends pre-exposure prophylaxis only when you work with animals or you're going somewhere where rabies is common, AND there's limited access to medical care (https://www.cdc.gov/rabies/hcp/prevention-recommendations/pre-exposure-prophylaxis.html), which definitely doesn't apply to Thailand. Even somewhere remote like Pai, if for some reason they don't have the vaccine, the local hospital should be able to patch you up before you go and get your first shot in Chiang Mai within 24 hours.

Pai, the most remote place that OP's mentioned, still has a class F1 (smallest class of primary care hospital for your basic healthcare needs) in the municipality. And if they don't have the vaccine, you can still easily head to Chiang Mai in 3 hours which has 3 class-A (tertiary care hospitals with more advanced equipment for things like organ transplants, neurosurgery etc. ) hospitals, not including private hospitals.

Bitten by dog, best place to start rabies course?
I’m visiting CM and was bitten by a dog at a temple today. Not a stray exactly but the kind of strays that the monks take care of so they hang around.
Where is the best place to start a course of rabies shots? Thanks for any advice in advance!

I got boosters after being bitten a couple years ago at chiang mai wellness clinic. In and out in about 15/20 minutes. Cost was around 500 for each shot iirc.

Go to Bangkok hospital in CM. Private hospital, quick and effective treatment with great follow-up but 2-3x more expensive than the public hospitals. If you're worried about rabies pay the extra money.

I have personal experience just a few weeks ago. Get to Chiang Mai RAM Hospital’s ER. They will give you the rabies vax, and then you return in 3 days from that visit, 7 days and then 7 days again. You need all 4 of those visits in that increment. RAM was great about this. They said most likely not needed, but because it’s so hot & humid, the bacteria in the dog’s mouth may do damage so do it anyway just to be safe. Good luck.

Am I overly afraid of rabies or should I get treatment?
Hey all. Sorry if this is a FAQ.
48 hours ago I suffered food poisoning in Pai, so bad that I slept in the toilet for an hour. The toilet building had big gaps between roof and walls. I woke up from a loud noise. Instinctively I thought it was a bat, which made me scared of rabies. I saw no bat or other animal, but I seem to have 2 tiny prick marks on my foot that I never noticed before but have also not seen bleeding. They didnt seem fresh.
Today I was walking around Chiang Mai, and a small dog owned by a coffee store licked my leg, which had a big dry scratch wound from three days earlier. It seemingly tried to bite me AKA 'nip' my ankles. Again, instinctively I feared rabies.
Prior to flying to Thailand, I received a full preventative rabies vaccination course.
May I please get some insight from locals, or tourists/travelers who have more experience with this sort of stuff? I feel like a huge hypochondriac, but then again it is a terrible disease.
Thank you for your time, pardon me if this gets asked too much, and have a wonderful day.

Not a doctor but I'd say it's very unlikely that a bat would bite you at your foot. Also rabbit dog wouldn't lick you. There are 3 deaths from rabies last year and none of them are from the northern part of Thailand. If you're worry then get a post-exposure vaccine at any large hospital. It's a rare disease but yes it's still exist. I like to play with strays so I got my shots.

If your last shot of full pre-exposure is not older than 6 months it is very unlikely you will get rabies even you got bitten by a rabid animal, except if you have immunocompromised.
