After a decade in Thailand, first time flying back to Europe. Is there something that I have to do in Thailand? I live in Thailand on a marriage extension and plan to come back after a few months. Long time ago that I flew international, departing from Suvarnabhumi, and thinking what would have changed and what I have to do to have a good stay in Europe and an easy return to Thailand. I'm living in Thailand, extensions based on married with a Thai partner, and an official address in Thailand. I have made a little check list for myself: - Most important for me is the re-entry permit. I will do it here at the local immigration office. It's also possible at Suvarnabhumi, but I have no idea where it's located. - Going to Kasikorn Bank and check if I can use my Thai debit card in Europe. (I don't plan for using the card, because I also have a European bank account, but you never know) - I believe so long I have my Thai sim card, the bank app will work in Europe. The app I will use regular to make transactions and payments in Thailand. - Going to DTAC asking if my sim works in Europe. And maybe for the first months, ask for an international data roaming package. After some time, I can ask for a European sim card. - My current extension is until end 2025, so it's best that I come back before the end of 2025. (On time to ask for a new extension.) - I believe that staying 3 - 6 or 9 months in Europe doesn't have an influence on my extension in Thailand. My Thai wife stays here, and the first year, it will have no influence on the marriage. (You still are seen as living together as a married couple) Did I forget something? Then practically, at Suvarnabhumi: Is there still an immigration post with immigration officers? I don't know if I need a stamp in my passport for the re-entry and I believe the automatic ports cannot do that. If yes, where do I find them? Is there something that I forgot, or you wish to add, please feel free to inform me.

You can get a re-entry at the airport. I have done this twice in the past month. It is located in the same area as immigration (where they stamp you out). All you do is give the lady your passport and 1200 baht, then wait for around 10 mins whilst they sort it out. You can then exit using the e-gates without a stamp

It's 1000 THB actually for single re-entry, 3900 for multiple.

It's 200 baht more for the reason that they fill out the form, and you do not need to provide a photo. There is nothing to worry about on departure day. You literally rock up, give your passport to the lady and wait 10 mins.

In my experience it is wayyyy easier to get it done at the airport. Immigration office we have to go out there and wait in eternal queues. The airport has virtually no wait as I assume it is not that well known. If you’re really worried just go an hour earlier to the airport than you originally planned. Still saves more time and a trip to immigration

If you are on a 1 year extension, you need a re-entry. If you are on a multi entry non-o, then you don't need because each entry is for only 90 days. The OP said that he is on an extension.

Quick question about re-entry permits I would like to double-check something that a volunteer at Chiang Mai immigration recently told me, because it doesn't sound quite right to me. I just got a 30-day extension of my current visa-exempt entry. Also, I'm flying out of the country on April 25 for a couple days to refresh my presence here as I can't do another land border re-entry for another eight months apparently (I've done two since my arrival in October—one in December and one in February). While helping me with the extension, the volunteer told me that prior to leaving I need to also buy a re-entry permit to come back into Thailand when I return on April 27. This sounded odd to me, as I thought that re-entry permits are only used in conjunction with visas, and not when in the country visa-exempt. I thought that when one is here visa-exempt, any air departure out of the country and then coming back in (via air) "wipes the slate clean," so to speak, rendering any recent history of having been in Thailand irrelevant... making it basically as if I just arrived as a first-timer. Was the volunteer wrong about this? Or is she right and it's something I was just unaware of?

You cannot get a reentry permit for a visa exemption. These are usually reserved for the longer extensions of stay (retirement, family, etc). Also the 2 land border entries per year is based on the calendar year (1 Jan - 31 Dec) not a rolling year.

You are allowed 2 visa exempt land border entries per calendar year. Per the information provided, you have only entered once so can attempt one more land border entry before December 31, 2023. > I thought that when one is here visa-exempt, any air departure out of the country and then coming back in (via air) "wipes the slate clean," so to speak, rendering any recent history of having been in Thailand irrelevant... making it basically as if I just arrived as a first-timer. Unfortunately, you thought wrong. Not sure where you came up with this little nugget wisdom but your entries don't get "wiped" regardless of how you enter. At some point immigration will tell you to get the proper visa to stay here long term and/or deny you entry. Re-entry permits are not usually available for visa exempt entries.

I would suggest registering the marriage before you leave the country. It takes like 45 mins total and requires 2 witness and minimal paperwork. While out of the country, apply for a 60 day tourist visa and have your wife explain that you're returning for the marriage visa process. You will need at leat 60 days with your money in the bank anyway. The marriage registration will help your over all process. If you get stopped and questioned, just mention you are in the process of getting the non O
