   I don't understand the hate against Nimman I always heard in Reddit people shitting on Nimman: "Oh, Nimman is for newbies, lot of better areas"... "Nimman is just a touristic area, real Chiang Mai lovers reside elsewhere" I was an ex workaholic and I decided to come in Nimman because I wanted to have a easy place to meet other expats and do activities. Because of some health condition, I prefer to not rent a motorbike and just use grab. Best decision in my life! I found a condo that is close to everything in every place. In every angle I go there's something interesting. If I go in the left, there's this wonderful University area, super walkable, lot of green, a park, an amazing young people vibe, and some nice cheap restaurants. I'm 10 minutes from Maya If I need to buy something. Close to many markets, stalls, cozy cafè in any area. My 2° favourite area, Old City, is just 20 minutes from me. I could not be happier. Before I stayed in D Condo ping close to Central Festival mall, and while I liked the condo, the area was bland. I tried also Chang Puak, and while is nice, is not well connected like this area. I was scared before about the "plane noises" but I felt them very mild and bearable. They don't annoy me, they are quite moderate. I understand that some people may feel annoying to walk in street that has a good amount of tourists but I don't mind this. The only issue I had is some demolition close to my condo but they are now finished. I plan to stay here another year and maybe in 2028 rent an house closer to montain and nature. But for not, it's all good! Nimman is not bad if you find a decent prized condo in an quiet area, if you want to stay in a central area easy for social life and activities, it's great in my opinion!

      Have you ever tried to walk outside that touristic area? You will see lot of nice streets, way more than most places in Chiang Mai. I think many people don't like to take long walks. You will see that just walking 10 minutes will bring you in nice areas where you will not find tourists.

      I think the key detail in your post is that you walk everywhere. Most locals get around by motorbike, so things tend to be a little more spread out in other parts of the city. Nimman is one of the few walkable areas in Chiang Mai

      Yes for me walking is essential. I can't use motorbike. This is why areas like D Condo Ping close to Central Festival are a big no for me. They are not walkable.

      Nimman and the old town around the moat are hands down the best. Every other area is remote and requires you getting on a motorcycle. People say why travel around the world to end up in Nimman — not realizing just how exotic it is to somebody who has never lived in Thailand. Yes, there are more foreigners there, but it is still Thailand and it is still exotic, and very comfy. 15 years in Chiang Mai and I don’t need to live out in the boondocks. I even have a house right behind here. I am definitely team Nimman.

      Just walk out the "touristic area" and things will be cheap again. You see where Maya is? Just go on the left, keep walking or take a short grab and you will find very cheap hairdressers...and everything else is cheap...

      Hate? Nope. Lived on Soi 6 for 2.5 years. Other than mild, very occasional plane noise (6:30 to 23:30), crowded Nimmanhaemin (so walk) and mildly elevated prices in SOME spots, it was fine. Many things EASILY available at nearly all hours. My wife still cuts hair in the mall. Only reason to leave is that we bought a house. Sometimes, I miss the area.

      I honestly don’t see at all why people love Nimman. Everyone kept telling me I had to stay there, so I gave it a real chance and lived there for two months, but I ended up giving up on it. First, the planes.. it’s just way too loud, all the time. It feels stressful rather than enjoyable. Second, the constant flow of Chinese tourists. It’s crowded and overwhelming most of the time. Third, the prices.. everything is overpriced for what you actually get. Fourth, the planes again. It’s not something you just get used to. It keeps interrupting your day and adds constant background stress.

   AT Thai Foods! Ate here 4 or so times in less than a week. Super good prices, nice selection of dishes we love, no frills attached. Served by friendly staff and usually within minutes of ordering.
