Evenings, noise and language

The area around Nimmanhaemin Road is a popular hangout for younger Thais, perhaps due to its proximity to Chiang Mai University. The pubs there feature loud music interspersed with live bands.

Noise and bar closing times vary by street. The practical test is a visit after dark: stand in the room in the evening and listen.

Little English is spoken in this part of the city. Many bar staff are students and often understand or speak reasonable English.

Getting around from Nimman

A red songthaew fare is THB 30 per person within the city, with fares outside the route set by distance and negotiable. The songthaew guide covers the red trucks, and getting around Chiang Mai covers Grab, Bolt and bikes.

Deposit and your lease

For operators with three or more units, a standard-lease term letting the landlord collect advance rent and deposit above three months of monthly rent is prohibited. A landlord who lets fewer than three units falls outside that clause as read.

The rent guide covers the other banned terms and what to check at the viewing.

Burning season

The burning season, from February to April, causes severe smog from agricultural fires, and air quality often reaches hazardous levels. The burning season guide covers what to do before you commit to a lease through those months.
