Expat Connection
Meetup
Chiang Mai Professionals, Expats, and Digital Nomads、Make New Friends in Chiang Mai或Beyond Small Talk, Chiang Mai。刚到的可以先试New In Town Meetup。
InterNations
Wat Suan Dok的Monk Chat

How Can I Make Friends in Thailand? Hey! I’m a Korean in my 30s, and earlier this year I went on a trip to Bangkok with some friends. I’ve been abroad a few times for work, but that was actually my first real trip for fun — and it was such a great experience. I used to be really proud of Korean food, but Thai food completely blew my mind — it was *so* good. And honestly, what I loved most was how kind and friendly everyone was. So this November, I’m thinking of traveling to Thailand again, but this time solo — and I’m planning to visit Chiang Mai. I’d really love to make some Thai friends while I’m there. Do you know any good places or ways to meet locals? I’d also love to hang out and explore around for a day if I get close to someone, but I’m a bit worried it might come off as too forward.

I used tinder. Met tons of people! Huge help and saved my ass on multiple occasions figuring out transportation and navigating this city!

I processed a break up in CM on a solo trip once. The thing that helped me was renting a motorbike, driving to 11 (or 13) waterfall park and walking around the forest. Then just driving and exploring all day. Nature has a way of healing the soul.

I commented this recommendation before, but go to a hostel around old town. There's tons of people our age. I found some amazing people at Stamps, they have stuff going on everyday. I stayed at a hotel myself as well, but there's a lot of expats and travelers to meet up with

Solo travellers/expats - what do you find is the best way to make new friends in CM? Hi, Apologies if this has come up many times before, I've got a feeling it might've. I'm a solo traveller (36/M/UK) who works a UK job remotely for approx half the year. I've visited CM many times, I'm currently in UK but planning to be back in CM for Nov-Feb. I love SE Asia and the travel lifestyle in general, problem is, I'm quite introverted / suffer from social anxiety and struggle to make friends whilst travelling. I understand this is actually a fairly common problem with the digital nomad lifestyle. The only way I've been able to meet people thus far is via dating apps, but obviously I'd like to have a regular friend group outside of dating. The thing I like about dating apps is being able to establish a good rapport before meeting IRL, as it significantly lessens the initial IRL awkwardness for me. Basically I suck at starting IRL convos with random people / attending meetups etc. Does anyone else have this issue and/or have any good advice? I really love CM, it's such a beautiful perfectly-sized city with lovely locals, my apartment there is my favourite in the region too. A group of good friends is the only thing missing from the picture. FYI, I'm a bit of a crypto bro (both investing and innovation) if that's anyones cup of tea. But also happy just explore some cool places and have some drinks/smokes/laughs etc Thanks

Id suggest joining a coworking/coliving environment. Its easy to make friends, because you will see the same faces everyday while youre working. Most people will just ask you to go out. Another thing can be joining a school/ organisation to your liking. Im on an education visa and go to school twice every week. Im always happy to see my classmates again. Doesnt need to be a school, but i guess you can fill it in for yourself

Hostels. If you're a solo traveler and if you're willing to meet people nothing beats hostels. Also considering you're from the UK, you won't have issues meeting other EU people. Take a bed in mixed dorm room. I would suggest you stay in some hostels in the old Chiang mai area. I met lots of EU people in Green sleep hostel.

Get on Facebook—there are meetups, get-togethers, dinners, and all sorts of activities for any number of interests where you can meet people in Chiang Mai.

First week into 1 month trip. I feel like Social anxiety is getting the better of me 21M white guy from Canada solo for the first time. I'm the kind of guy that would rather stay inside & have trouble initiating conversations but when I am with someone I can really enjoy myself. Saw the temples and muay thai fights, very cool. Would love if anyone wanted to grab a lunch/beer, show me some street food spots since I haven't really tried any or hang out, i would be down for whathever. Plans are checking out Ayutthaya soon and going Chiang Mai later Elephant Sanctuary / Scooter tour. Met a younger expat at a Meetup and he showed me around the bars (around Nana obviously) and he dates alot so not so much time to hangout. Personally scared of catching something from hanging out with a bar girl but it's pretty funny walking around at night. P.S Found out I'm a handsum boy since the ladies that did my laundry said so. Overall I like it, scooter rides are so fun but I feel like I haven't seen that much stuff and I could enjoy the city more by meeting other people. I speak EN,FR,JP but no Thai which also dosen't help. Feel free to give me any tips

Easiest way to make friends with fellow travellers is on transport and during activities. Small talk comes easier in these situations. Once everyone has settled into their accommodation they are less approachable.
