Loi Kroh Road(ถ.

Superrich Thailand

Money questions… I’m going to be spending 3 weeks in Thailand and I’m traveling from the US. My hotels will be paid in full including Elephant Hills. I was considering bringing $1000 Thai baht for my arrival and getting more cash as I go along. I don’t really drink or party but I will buy (or do) what I want when I’m there. For Europe, I usually budget $3000 usd per trip. Anyway, is my above plan doable? And if I need to exchange money, where are the best options in Bangkok Chiang Mai Khao Lak ? Thanks for any assistance. In Europe, I just use ATMs but I don’t know that that will be my best option for this trip.

Use ATMs, don't accept the "currency exchange" option, let your bank do it.

In Thailand rn for 4 weeks, same situation as you, I’m in my last week here and spent around 1k for the first three weeks, couple sight seeing, street food pretty much every night, a lot of small purchase but no real big one and I have 400€ left I brought with me 1500, excluding grab food and drivers that I pay with my card, did the regular massage food some activities no partying or high class restaurant it would go a lot faster otherwise but we are two

If you have a card that allows 0 foreign exchange fee withdrawals, then I'd bring $1000 and withdraw 30000 at a time from ATMs when needed, you'll only pay a 250 baht fee if you decline currency exchange per time, which is nothing for 30000 baht. If you don't have a 0 fx fees card, then I'd just bring the full amount in cash.

I am here for 3 months so looked into card in Australia and set it all up before flying ... good luck on choice but I felt comfortable with what the Aussie post travel card offers ... Also advise your bank your travels in case something happens I just transferred 70k from Bendigo to WU account here but had to talk to fraud squad at Bendigo as was having a issue at first so they seen my notes on file from local ranch in Sydney and asked me a few questions about my travels then was able to get 70k here for wife account

-Money Exchange: definitely not in airports, there are many shops in Thai cities you can go, Superrich shops are everywhere and have good rates. For me, I only keep money for emergency and small shops that don't accept credit cards, I don't know about in Australia but we have prepaid credit cards that have 0% currency exchange fees. -Booking: I usually use Agoda or Booking com for hotels, some hotels are cheaper when you book directly from them, some cheaper online, for me usually I find better deals online. -Everything is available in Thailand with cheaper prices, so I think just bring necessary things in case you don't find there. -Try not to overpack, other than the limited weight in airports, even buses that travel from one city to another charge you for big bags, it's cheap tho. Also It can be a little tough to walk around with big luggage. -Budget depends on you, it is different from one to another but maybe someone here can help you.

Currency exchange I will be starting my journey from Chiang Mai. Are there any reputable/reliable places to convert currency? Also, how much will it cost for a private taxi/car for a trip to the Golden triangle and Chiang Rai? I saw the tours, but would live to go at my own pace and start early.

How do I exchange money? This might be a silly question, but at foreign exchange places do they accept payments via card? The reason I was asking was because I read somewhere that it’s good to take cash from your home currency (in my case GBP) to exchange there? I’m going to Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pai, and a few islands so if I exchanged in any of these places would I need cash or can I use my card? The reason I’m asking is if I needed cash to exchange in the first place then maybe it would be better to exchange my currency at home rather than take all that cash in £ there. Thank you!

That's the part where you're confused. The exchange stalls, like the name suggests, exchange cash. The ATMs give you thai baht, so there's no need for an exchange. If you would use your card at the stall, you'd do the same thing twice. Again, it's either...or.

Best thing is change up a bit of cash before you come, but then just withdraw from ATMs. There is a fixed fee for using the machines but it’s not much, just take out a big sum like 10-15K each time, or whatever your bank allows. And always choose “continue without conversion” so you will pay your bank’s conversion rate rather than the local ATM’s (Thai ATMs offer a very unfavourable conversion rate). Make sure you have a decent card/account for travelling abroad. Monzo for example, who offer the best exchange rates and also don’t charge for transactions when you use your card to pay. I rarely use cash in Thailand as it’s much better for me to use my Monzo and pay card.
