Home internet in Chiang Mai comes down to one question: how many contract months you sign, and what leaving early costs. AIS and True publish their package pages and terms.

Every AIS price below is a monthly rate before VAT. Ask the True shop whether its monthly price includes VAT.

AIS splits plans by the kind of fibre your building has. Broadband Condo packages are only available to customers with fibre to the building (FTTB). BROADBAND24 packages are only available with fibre to the home (FTTH) or fibre to the room (FTTR).

AIS plan Speed (down/up) Contract Monthly price, before VAT
Broadband Condo 50Mbps/20Mbps 12 Months 269 baht
BROADBAND24 300Mbps/300Mbps 12 Months 499 baht
BROADBAND24 500Mbps/500Mbps 24 Months 500 baht
BROADBAND24 1Gbps/500Mbps 24 Months 600 baht
BROADBAND24 1Gbps/1Gbps 12 Months 1,200 baht
BYOD 1Gbps/500Mbps 12 Months 599 baht
BYOD 2Gbps/1Gbps 24 Months 1,299 baht

The 599 baht BYOD tier is a 12-month contract: its terms discount the installation fee over a continuous 12-month cycle. 3BB’s card for the same tier shows 24 months. Confirm the contract months on the paper you sign.

Terms in plain words

  • FTTB, FTTH, FTTR: how far the fibre runs. FTTB stops at the building; FTTH reaches your home and FTTR your room. Ask your landlord or building office which one you have.
  • BYOD: bring your own device. The box AIS fits has a LAN port (a wired socket) and no Wi-Fi, so you buy a router of any brand.
  • Entry fee: a one-off activation charge. AIS’s is 800 baht, down from 2,000 baht.

What a year costs

Twelve months of the 269 baht Broadband Condo plan comes to THB 3,228 before VAT. Twelve months of the 599 baht BYOD plan comes to THB 7,188 before VAT. Both are totals of the monthly price alone, before the install and entry fees below.

A stay under 12 months loses the installation discount, so the 4,800 baht fee lands on your first bill. Fines for early termination come on top. AIS fixes the fine by length of service, so ask the shop for the figure in writing.

AIS ties its installation fee to the contract. The fee is 4,800 baht, payable in the first monthly bill. On Broadband Condo it is discounted for a continuous 12-month billing cycle. On BROADBAND24 it is discounted for a continuous 24-month cycle.

Term Detail
Entry fee 800 baht, down from 2,000 baht
How the 800 baht comes back A monthly 100-baht discount over 8 billing cycles
Property owners No activation fee with house registration documents or other official proof of ownership
Leaving before the cycle ends Fines calculated by length of service
Moving the installation point Not allowed in the first 6 months
Equipment on cancellation Return all leased equipment to an AIS Shop within 15 days

On the Home FibreLAN Max 2Gbps package, customers cannot change to a lower speed package during the 24 billing cycles. The package is for personal use; sub-leasing or commercial use is prohibited.

Equipment and Wi-Fi

BROADBAND24 includes the loan of 1 router with a rental value of 2,500 baht. With BYOD the box has a LAN port only and no Wi-Fi, so you prepare a Wi-Fi router of any brand or model.

Speeds can drop in the daily peak from 6:00 PM to 12:00 AM, when heavy use may push connections below the package speed.

Foreigners: paperwork and prepayment

At AIS, a foreign applicant brings a passport copy plus one of three proofs:

  • a work permit;
  • a letter from your company certifying your work;
  • proof of residence in Thailand, such as your name on a house registration copy or ownership of real estate in Thailand.

A foreigner with an alien card shows the alien card instead of the passport copy. The list sits in a graphic on AIS’s document page, so check it at an AIS shop before you go. If none of the three proofs fits your visa, ask the shop what else it accepts.

AIS lets you send application documents through the LINE account of AIS Contact Center. Since 1 September 2025 it asks you to cross out or cover the religion and blood group fields on a passport or ID copy before sending it.

Someone who neither owns nor rents the home can apply with the consent of the owner of the residence. The promotion is the same as for a normal installation. The apartment rental guide covers the lease side.

At True, a foreign subscriber prepays in blocks of 6 or 12 months (billing cycles). Prepaid fees are not refundable if you cancel before the minimum period.

Installation and moving

BROADBAND24 installation takes place within 24 hours where all documents have been submitted, excluding customers applying online. A usage problem gets a solution within 24 hours of a formal report to AIS Call Center 1175 or AIS Fibre Line Connect. True customers report problems on 1242.

To move an AIS Fibre3 installation point, contact an AIS Shop. True charges a prorated amount of at most 2,600 baht for an early move.

If your building has fibre to the building

Broadband Condo is the AIS plan for it, at 269 baht on a 12-month contract.

If you have your own router

BYOD supplies a LAN-port device and leaves the Wi-Fi to you.

If you may leave within a year

Pick a 12-month tier. Leaving before the cycle ends still carries AIS fines or True’s repayment of promotions.

If you are a foreign True subscriber

Budget for prepayment in blocks of 6 or 12 months, and for no refund if you cancel early.
