Chiang Mai Hot Springs: Which to Pick, Prices and Hours
Pick San Kamphaeng for a half day: it is about 36 km from the city, costs THB 100 at the gate for a foreign adult and opens 07:00 to 18:00 daily. Fang is a full-day trip of about 160 km, inside a national park whose foreign-adult rate is THB 300. Both have pools for boiling eggs.

For an easy half day, go to San Kamphaeng; for a full day out with a bigger view of the steam, go to Fang.
For a half day with children, San Kamphaeng is the one, since it is about 36 km out and has a foot soak and a playground at the gate. If you want a private bath or a swim, it is San Kamphaeng again, with private mineral rooms and a shared mineral pool. Fang wins on scenery: the steam from its big pool rises more than 40 m inside a national park.

San Kamphaeng Hot Springs prices and opening hours

The springs are open every day from 07:00 to 18:00. A foreign adult pays THB 100 at the gate and a child THB 50, and parking inside is THB 40 a vehicle. That ticket gets you a foot soak in the mineral water, egg boiling, and a children’s playground.
Most of the other prices stack on top of the gate ticket, so decide what you want before you pay:
| Extra | Price |
|---|---|
| Private mineral bath room | THB 65 a person |
| Shared mineral swimming pool, foreigners | THB 100 adult, THB 50 child |
| Swimsuit hire | THB 35 |
| Thai massage, foreigners | THB 250 an hour |
Prices are from the springs’ own site, checked November 2026.
Egg pool, foot soak or a proper bath
Eggs are boiled in a natural pool, and the hottest pool is up to 105 degrees Celsius, so keep children well back and let the staff do the lifting. For a real soak, you have two choices: the private rooms have separate men’s and women’s zones and towels for hire, while the shared pool is better for a group or kids, with swimsuits for hire. We recommend the private room if you only want the minerals and not a swim, because it is the cheapest paid option.
Fang Hot Spring: fee, hours and what to see

Fang’s springs sit beside the Doi Pha Hom Pok National Park office, and the park is on the DNP list where a foreign adult pays THB 300 and a child THB 150. Those rates date from June 2022 (as of 2022, so the gate price may differ). Hours run 08:00 to 16:30 every day, so aim to arrive by early afternoon rather than near closing.

You come to Fang for scale: the springs spread over about 15 rai, with roughly 50 pools and water between 30 and 80 degrees Celsius. The big pool sends steam more than 40 m into the air. Egg boiling is one of the activities, and there are shops, food and drink stalls and toilets next to the park office. Because the pools run from lukewarm to scalding, test the water by hand before any foot soak.
Which hot spring suits you (and who should skip)
San Kamphaeng suits anyone who wants to be back in the city by afternoon. It is about 36 km out and opens early, so you can soak in the cool of the morning. Skip it if you came for a wild, mountain-park feel, because the gate ticket is built around a family-day-out mix of soaking, eggs and a playground.
Fang suits drivers who like long scenic days and want to see a large field of pools. Skip it if you only have half a day, because the road is about 160 km and a little over 3 hours one way, and it closes at 16:30.
How to get to the hot springs

San Kamphaeng lies in Mae On District, about 40 minutes by car from the city centre, on Highway 1317, the Chiang Mai to Mae On road. A taxi or Grab gets you there, so agree the return ride before you leave. Show the driver the address, 1 Moo 7, Ban Sahakon, Mae On (น้ำพุร้อนสันกำแพง).
The cheapest way is the van from Chang Phueak, which runs via Kad Luang, Nong Hoi and Promenada for THB 45. The operator says the price may change and gives no times, so ring first. For a hired car or red truck, see the getting around Chiang Mai guide and the red songthaew guide; to ride yourself, read motorbike rental in Chiang Mai first.
Fang is farther: take Highway 107 (Chiang Mai to Fang) to Fang town, follow the Fang to Mon Pin road for about 300 m, turn right onto road 4055 and go 7 km to the park office near the springs. Plan on a little over 3 hours each way, so leave early and agree a full-day price if you hire a driver. Show the driver (น้ำพุร้อนฝาง).

When to go and how long
Go in the cool season. In Chiang Mai the average daytime high is about 29 degrees in December and about 30 in January, against about 37 in April, and early mornings in January average about 16. A hot soak is easier to enjoy in that cooler air than in April’s heat. August is the wettest month, with about 21 rainy days, so a wet drive up to Fang is the worst case.
Plan a half day at San Kamphaeng, opening early at 07:00. Fang is a full day, because the drive alone is a little over 3 hours each way.
Nearby and how to combine it
For a tour that fits in one day, see the Thai massage guide to follow a soak with a massage at a shop in town, and the things to do in Chiang Mai page for what else suits an afternoon. The springs at Tha Pai, on the way to Pai, are covered in the Pai day trip guide.
