People with mental health needs may be hospitalised and detained without consent. Examples are behaving in a threatening manner, or needing urgent treatment while unable to decide for themselves. In an emergency a police officer or doctor may take this step, but a court decides whether the power applies. If you are hospitalised and the British embassy is notified, it will try to contact you.
