About the place :
A recently discovered ancient city believed to have been
built during the reign of King Meng Rai in 1286, the
city was once the capital of the Lanna Kingdom until the
Ping River flooded and wiped out the whole city. To
visit Wiang Kum Kam today, drive south east of Chiang
Mai, between Km. 3-4, on the Chiang Mai-Lamphun route in
Saraphi District. Just drive along the road at Nong Hoi
Police box to the Ko Klang Pa Kluai intersection and
proceed to Chedi Liam Police box. There are more than 20
ancient ruins inside and around Wiang Kum Kam including
Wat Chedi Liam, Wat Chang Kham, Wat Noi, Wat Pu Pia, Wat
Ku Koa, Wat E Kang, Wat Hua Nong, and Wat Pu Song which
are dated from the 21st 22nd Buddhist centuries.
Review
:
I've been to this place a few times and loved it. It's
not far from Chiang Mai city and quite easy to
get there. You can get some taxi service ,Chiang
Mai's taxi(song-tew) ,Tuktuk or go with the day
tour. The whole under water city that just been
found reasonly is not a bad way at all for
things to do in Chiang Mai.
Once you get there. There is an information
centre where you can find maps and history about
this place. Please not that the whole place is
quite big so you can either get the tram service
or house cart with your own tour guide.
I went on the house cart ever time I
visited and would never want to do it any other
ways. on the private house cart tour you can ask
your guide to stop anywhere you like for the
photos and to visit each temple or even stop for
a bite at the local restaurant in there. It was
one of my favourite place in Chiang Mai.
Tips :
The weather would be quite hot during the day as
there are not many trees around so you will need
to bring your hat or even an umbrella. |
