Review
:
This is just one of the Sunday markets we have in Chiang
Mai. The locals called this market "tha-non-kon-dern"
which translated as "walking street for human". Every Sunday of each week this street right in the city of
Chiang Mai will be closed from 5 to until late. That's why
this has become the human walking street.
Occurring
every Sunday afternoon and going into the night this
market is famous for it’s local art crafts, food, gifts,
music and buskers. I love this market because it’s
completely different from the daily night market
otherwise known as the night bazaar. In Thai it’s called
Tha-non-kon-dern (literally translated as “the road that
people walk”) it’s relaxed friendly and the shop keepers
are so nice and down to earth as most of them are will be
students or locals that do this market for their part
time job.
There’s
no pushy sales people here, you don't have to worry much
about bargaining everything down to the ground because
locals and foreigners are getting the same price. Most
stores will even have their price up on the tables. I
hate seeing foreigners get ripped off and that's why I
can thoroughly recommend this market. I love the atmosphere,
the night time lights, the food, some juggling,
dancing and just the fun of it. Anyway if you like
markets this one is a must!!!
Opening hours :
between
5:00pm-11:00pm every Sunday
Location :
Thapea
gate, city Centre Chiang Mai
How to
get there
: If you have a car you can drive there. But I recommend
you to get a Tuktuk or a taxi as it is very hard to find
a park. Also these people will know exactly where
Tha-non-kon-dern is.
